Day trading

The others advice is pretty good, but with the day trading, you shouldn’t day trade unless you have a few million in the market. Most of the people that day trade for a living; they are on leverage up to 1000 to one. So every dollar they “personally” have in the market, the company they work for gives them 999 dollars to trade. Then in turn take a percent of any profit, and if the person loses any of the money, they will need to pay it back. The reason you need so much money is because they “make there own market” in stock. What I mean is, they have so much money in a stock, they can change the price of it by a penny or two when they trade. A penny or two, over 1000’s of shares, many times a day….adds up very fast, and that is how they make money.
I guess I should have worded it differently. I already trade ameritrade. I use a newer dell with a 19in LCD. I am interested in upgrading to a multi-LCD/ multi-video card setup to follow more charts at once. Does anyone have a multi monitor setup?

You will need a computer that is quick you will also need a highspeed internet connection and most importantly you will need level 2 charts that are not delayed that are up to the minute tick for tick with the market, which you will probably have to pay a subscription for. Most charts on the internet are delayed. If you don't know how to day trade you will need to learn how which I am assuming you don't understand the true concept of day trading most people don't they think it is based on volatility and momentum which couldn't be further from the truth. It is based on mocking the specialists and getting inbetween the bid ask spreads which have become very tight in todays markets. so educate yourself before you start.
Day trading

Funny! You don't. Day trading is VERY risky no matter how you do it.

I use Lightning Strikes Trading System for trading in any time frame and it works on forex, stocks, bonds, etf's, mutual funds, etc… They have 3 free training sessions a week and you don't have to buy the software to join in the live chat and text. You can even watch some recorded past live sessions. Here are some past charts that I used.

There are 7 indicators (2 short, 2 medium, and 3 long term) and if volume is reported another one is added (on balance volume). Plus whatever time-frame is used the 2 green horizontal lines are the support and resistance for that time frame. So when indicators are all touching the bottom price is at or very, very near support. At top is at or very, very near resistance. Which helps my entry/exits and risk/reward ratio.

Most people say economics, but that does not go in depth into trading and others say any thing in finance, but thats normaly banking or accounting.I found that financial mathematics is a degree to consider. Can anyone help me get on track with which degree or education is most suitable in becoming a Day Trader! Thanks!!

Finance is as close as you can get, but the subject is too broad to learn how to effectively day trade. My suggestion is to read books on how to day trade and how to effectively use day trading strategies.

Some strategies you can research are:

Trend Following
Scalping
Momentum Trading
Range Trading
News Trading (buying/selling on news or anticipation thereof)

All but news trading involve some form of Technical Analysis which I would advise you to read about as well.

I would also recommend you start looking into an ECN (electronic communication network) to use as your primary trading platform.

Wiki has a lot of information you can use, but I would always recommend reading independently and doing research online. Some authors you can look up are Alexander Elder, Michael Covel, Curtis Faith and John Murphy to name a few.

If your current/future employer offers an employee 401k plan. Invest up to the matching % of your employers contribution. If plan offers an election to invest in a money market fund you may want to invest in it until you learn more. Next invest in a Roth IRA up to the max allowed(yearly). If you then have more money to invest, go back to your 401k plan and invest the max allowed(yearly). So after you do all the above and want to invest more you should be able to decide how. Only invest money that you can afford to lose. Making some quick money is nice but if you lose it, it gets right ugly.

You may also think about ETF's instead of mutual funds, stocks. and options.

Try what you learn on demo sites. They can be a very fun but educational way to learn from mistakes. If you pick 75% right with play money then you might be ready to start slowly investing.
