I have been researching the net, and trying to find a good day trading system. There are so many ways I can go, and I'm overwhelmed. I have also been reading books on the subject, so I'm not totally clueless. I also know day trading styles are all different. I guess I'm just trying to find a proven trading system.

Streetcorner hustling
Less money, i'm unsure how to start.

Basically, I'm not up for a big gamble, I want to take twenty dollars and make it fourty.
A friend of mine mentioned day trading, how and where do I start? What's it all about?

Any information or insight would be appriciated!

Hopefully, "20 making 40" is metaphorical … because that will get you nowhere. Before you do anything you need to educate yourself. How, and to what degree, is your choice. Books, classes, on line, workshops, etc…anything will help. I'd recommend an Investment Club. That way you are actively participating and learning at the same time. You may even get away with your 20 dollars (a month) as there is strength in numbers. Ultimately, you'll want to start small, and, as you get more experienced and knowledgeable, try bigger and better. For your first "solo" step, I'd recommend something like Sharebuilder where you can purchase stocks at prices like $4 a transaction…a good way to get your feet wet and see if you like it. Good luck.
I have already completed the CIF & the AMFI Courses for STATE BANK OF INDIA. I want to complete the Course in Trading in order to be able to complete dealing in Investment Portfolio for the customers/non-customers.
I prefer to go for weekend courses as it will not be possible for me to attend any on working days, I don't mind it being a Sunday too.
If there is an online course and I have to only attend an exam for the same, I don't mind going for that too!
Thanks.

There are many trading systems/methods and software programs based on them. An online course would likely be based on one trading system or a particular software program. You want to first look at different trading systems and choose the one you are most comfortable with. Just do a search on Amazon for books on stock trading and review the ones with the best reviews.

You may also want to talk to other traders to find out what they think/use. Try:

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/TradingZoom/

It's a free online stock picking group. We have a few Indian members trading US stocks.

I am just learning day trading & am uncertain of this one point:

(Keeping in mind I am using penny stocks)
I am confused about money figures when it is LESS than a penny.
For example, 0.0001
How would you say this? Would you start out on the right at Ones, Tens, Hundreds, etc…so this would be said "One one thousandth of one dollar"? Someone I was talking to said no, it would be TEN thousandths. That isn't correct, is it?

Ok, that was one Q, the others are along the same line – - I just do not know how to figure exactly HOW MUCH we are talking about once it drops down below a penny (or should we say penny increments) Can you show me HOW to figure it easily? Thanks.

Can you help?

Someone also mentioned moving the decimal over to the right TWO points would tell you SOMETHING. Not sure what she was trying to say, though.

Thanks for any help you can give!!!

First off, stop trading penny stocks, you will almost certainly lose money, particularly if you don't understand some basics like how the spread works. To answer your question 0.0001 is one hundredth of a penny. You need one hundred of them to make one cent.

Secondly, you should probably not even attempt day trading at this point. You need to have a much better understanding of how this all works. Take some time, take a course, read some books, learn from some other traders, but whatever you do, don't try and trade penny stocks!!

Hi,

i am a newbie in trading FX, just wondering if FX also need 3 days settlement like stock? also, any recommendation which online FX broker is better. Thanks

People who bad mouth FX, don't trade it. Yeah they probably lost there money because they didn't know what they where doing 10 years ago when retail FX got started. Educate your self, Buy a couple of books and open a Demo account for a few months to get the hang of it. Start small and build your knowledge and your account. Don't listen to the nay Sayers there to busy spending time on here collecting points.

Sir, nothing can help your day trading. I garuntee you that the more you trade, the more you will lose. Money does not come easy. You may win for awhile, a month, maybe even a year. But eventually the odds will catch up with you, and your money will plumet to the bottom of the ocean. Stop being a speculator, start being an investor. Read some books, study, become smart about your money, and you'll succeed. I'd start with "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham. Followed by "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" by Burton G. Malkiel.

Anything with level II is what you are probably looking for. It appears the poster above me may need to read a few books himself. I know what you are talking about.

Genesis provides the Laser platform, which offers direct access through all major US exchanges and ECNs. That is what I have had luck with. I felt it was very user friendly. At my last job I also worked with clients that use the Cybertrader platform, which is also a good Level II platform. The only other platform that I have worked with in addition to those two was HammerTrade, through Assent Clearing. At the time I used it (2004-2005) I found it to be relatively primitive, although I think they have advanced it since then. Other discount brokers like Etrade, etc. offer relatively good Level II platforms and even the major bulge bracket firms have tools available, if you meet capital requirements.

Oftentimes, you will find that it is trial and error-whatever works for you is the best. Different programs have different perks. If you are just looking at charting, I think ESignal is relatively good. You may want to check out Metastock too. Often charting systems will give you a free trial period to check out the software first. Good luck trading.

I want to learn how to daytrade. maybe take a practice run for a couple of weeks. any good websites?

Have you read John Carter's book yet? Mastering the Trade.

Also read Tom Busby's book, Winning the Day Trading Game.

They'll give you a good primer. Fantastic books to get you started. After that, you'll have a much better sense on what and where to go next.

One option would be to work with a mentor. Todd Mitchell looks interesting at toddmitchell.com for trading.

Though if you go to daytrading, you'll need to practice a lot more than a couple of weeks. Most successful day traders I know practiced at least months before being somewhat successful as there's all sorts of nuances, the shorter the timeframe that you trade in.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hope that helps!

Im a newbie in the stock market game and i want to know what is the best way for a new person to learn about how the stock market works. what books i should get and if there any websites that teach you. also what sites i should enroll with to try to do my own day trading. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!

There are a couple good books out. One of the best for newbies is the "Dummies" series. Go to any book store and look at what is offered to learn the stock market.

I use the Motley Fool website. However, if you want to get their Stock Adviser or Rule Breakers or any of the other many reports they issue, you have to pay for a membership.

There are other websites out there. A lot of them though, you have to pay for reports. Be careful if anyone of them tells you that some stock is going to go up 300% or something.

Day trading is very risky and not for armatures. It's a lot like going to Vegas. Learn the market first before you even attempt Day Trading.

There seems to be lots of people selling ebooks on this subject, but this is the net and I would like to research the information for free if possible before considering loosing my money.
