I was just about to get into day trading but I was going to start off with $5000 and $2500 in margin but i just red the margin/day trading policy and I believe it said that if I make more than 4 full trades in a week, then they will suspend my account untill I have a $25000 minimum. is this true?

I doubt they would do that, but ask them to find out for sure.

The thing is if you are trying to day-trade with $2,500, the commissions are going to eat up your entire investment. It will probably cost you $25 to buy and sell. The less money you put in, the higher your break-even point becomes. I never put less than $3,000 into a single stock or you just can't make any money off of it.

You also picked a terrible time to start trading my friend. Wait until the recession is over. Things are going to drop at least another 15% in the coming weeks. Your "day trading" will become "month trading" while you sit and wait for your stocks to come out of their loss positions.

Will a 1000$ be enough to start a scottrade account. Also do you need a minimum of 25k to day trade using scottrad, for example if i buy a stock monday evening will i be able to sell it tuesday or do you have to wait for 24 hours to pass also can you make more than one buy a day.

Federal law stipulates that in order to day trade, buy and sell a security the same day 3 times within a 3 day period, you must have an account valued at $25,000 or greater.

In order to simply open an account… with scottrade your $1000 is plenty.

If I start the day with $30,000 can I make a $10,000 day trade as long as I close the position by the end of the day? Or does this violate the rule requiring $25,000 equity at all times?

During the day I would have $20,000 in equity and $10,000 in said stock. By end of day I would be back to $30,000 plus any gain/loss I incurred on trade.

I'm trying to understand the intent of the rule, as I would like to start a day trading account with $25,000 to $30,000 in it.

The word is EQUITY not CASH.

You can buy $30000 in stock or $60000 in stock on margin ($120000 if cleared in advance by the brokerage house management and reduced to $60000 by the end of the day) None of these actions change your equity. The only way that your equity goes down to $25000 is if you withdraw or lose $5000.

I don't want to sound harsh, but this is for your own good. Daytrading is for experienced traders. If you don't even understand the basic vocabulary of trading, daytrading is an expensive way to learn.

Are you required to have $25000 to start day trading? Any tips on it???

You should really study up on this and know what you're doing, b/c people have lost their shirts day trading.
To be a pattern day trader I have to have 25000 dollars in the account even if it is not used for trading? or does it have to be a 25000 dollars stocks value that I own?

Thank you

If you have less than 25k in a stock account, you can only daytrade 3 times in a 5 business day time period. that is a buy and sell in the same day. if you have over 25k in that account, you can do whatever you want. doesn't matter if it is in cash or in stock as long as the total is more than 25k.
I'm a small investor, a very small investor. I have devised a range trading strategy which only requires two trades per day. My initial investment will be $500, through a cut rate online brokerage. I understand that the NYSE and the NASD, require a minimum of $25000 in the accounts of "pattern day traders". However the reason as I understand it, is to protect banks from losses on margin loans. I don't intend to buy on margin. So does this regulation apply to me? Thanks.

A day trader is some who buys or sells the same stock, the same day & does that 3x in the same trading week. For example, you buy stock (x) on monday, sell stock (x) on monday, buy stock (x) on tues, sell stock (x) on tues, then buy and sell stock (x) on wed, boom your flagged as a day trader & are requared to have 25k in your accout. so b4 you do the 3rd bu or sell, wait 5 market day's and you will be ok if you have a margin account (most margin accouts require a $2,500 balance), if you have a cash account, then after u sell a stock u are suposto wait 3 marktet day's b4 you buy a diff sotck, but there is a loop hole, you can buy a stock sonner, but then you cannot sell it b4 the 3 day's are done or your flagged for using a margin account but only having a cash accout/ the best way to do trading w/o having 25k, is to get a margin accout w only 2,500, doing 2 day tades a week & your safe..

CIETAC has another Chinese name that is China ICC Arbitration Court. You can consult with CIETAC whether they will accept your application.
But in my opinions, it's not like a agreement dispute but a trap. That guy is a criminal not a business man. He made the trap and defrauded you of the money.
